The workshop, attended by prostatitis experts from USA, UK, Canada, Germany and Russia, coincided with the beginning of a multi-site cohort study of prostatitis sponsored by NIH. Attendees included NIH officials, Medical Doctors and prostatitis patients, including representatives of the Prostatitis Foundation.

The main purpose of the meeting was to get input from the particiapnts about the various theories about what causes prostatitis and what treatments are effective against prostatitis. This input will be used in about one year, when the NIH-sponsored research turns to treatment trials.
